The Govt. of West Bengal had been pleased to institute the following awards to be conferred on members of West Bengal Police for Gallantry, for outstanding work and for outstanding devotion to duty vide Home (Political) Deptt. No. 3394-P Dtd. 16.05.2003.

Shaurya Padak

Shaurya Padak is awarded to the police personnel for outstanding gallantry with a record of overall satisfactory and continuous service and without any major punishment. Cash incentive of Rs. 15,000/- alongwith medal was given to the recipient of this padak till 2011. The cash incentive for this padak was enhanced to Rs. 50000/- vide Home (Police) Deptt. No. 171-PL Dtd. 09.01.2012. Further, in partial mofification of G. O No 171-PL Dtd 09.01.2012 the cash incentive for this padak has been enhanced to Rs 60000/- vide Home & Hill Affairs Dept No 3268. PL Dtd 09.08.2017

Nistha Padak

Nistha Padak is awarded to the police personnel for distinguished service who have put in minimum and continuous 25 years service without any major punishment. Cash incentive of Rs. 20,000/- alongwith medal was given to the recipient of this padak till 2011. The cash incentive for this padak was enhanced to Rs. 25,000/- vide Home (Police) Deptt. No. 171-PL Dtd. 09.01.2012. Further, in partial mofification of G. O No 171-PL Dtd 09.01.2012 the cash incentive for this padak has been enhanced to Rs 50000/- vide Home & Hill Affairs Dept No 3268. PL Dtd 09.08.2017

Prashansa Padak

Prashansa Padak is awarded to the police personnel for meritorious service who have put in minimum and continuous 15 years service without any major punishment. Cash incentive of Rs. 10,000/- alongwith medal was given to the recipient of this padak till 2011. The cash incentive for this padak was enhanced to Rs.15,000/- vide Home (Police) Deptt. No. 171-PL Dtd. 09.01.2012. Further, in partial mofification of G. O No 171-PL Dtd 09.01.2012 the cash incentive for this padak has been enhanced to Rs 40000/- vide Home & Hill Affairs Dept No 3268. PL Dtd 09.08.2017

Sewa Padak

Sewa Padak is awarded to the police personnel who have put in minimum 10 years continuous good service without any major punishment. Cash incentive of Rs. 5,000/- alongwith medal was given to the recipient of this padak till 2011. The cash incentive for this padak was enhanced to Rs. 10,000/- vide Home (Police) Deptt. No. 171-PL Dtd. 09.01.2012. Further, in partial mofification of G. O No 171-PL Dtd 09.01.2012 the cash incentive for this padak has been enhanced to Rs 25000/- vide Home & Hill Affairs Dept No 3268. PL Dtd 09.08.2017

The number of Padaks to be awarded each year in different category will not exceed as follows :-
(a) Shaurya Padak :- 5 (Five)
(b) Nishtha Padak :- 10 (Ten)
(c) Prashansa Padak :- 50 (Fifty)
(d) Sewa Padak :- 75 (Seventy-five)

Besides, Govt. of West Bengal has also introduced Chief Minister’s Medal for awarding the “Best Investigating Officer” among the police personnel vide Home(Police) Deptt No. 1072-PL Dtd. 30.11.2012 which are indicated below:-
1. Chief Minister’s Medal for Life-time Excellence in Investigation - Rs. 50,000/-
2. Chief Minister’s Medal for Best Investigating Officer of the year among Districts/Commissionerates - Rs. 50,000/-
3. Chief Minister’s Medal for Second Best Investigating Officer of the year among Districts/Commissionerates - Rs. 40,000/-
4. Chief Minister’s Medal for Best Investigating Officer among CID, EB and IB, West Bengal - Rs. 50,000/-
